Into My Arms, the transition piece from the Paths That Cross series to an as yet new, untitled series for the coming year. Tatum once again graced the studio for the inaugural image, a lighter palette, subtle textures, minimal props, leaving the mind to wander several directions.
Looking at my work from recent years, it is apparent the masters of Renaissance painting have had a significant influence on my photography. The lighting, color palette, and overall mood reflected in the imagery all reference the past. As I move forward, the imagery mirrors other times.
A recent session with Astrid Kallsen of Atlanta produced the above images and many more, natural light in the studio of the SE Center for Photography.
Paths That Cross is featured in the current issue of Square Magazine. Square, published in France by Christophe Dillinger, features the work of contemporary photographers working in the square format.
Thanks, Christophe for feature!
Tatum was back for another session in Paths That Cross, for Beneath the Southern Cross, above, and Lo and Behold, below. A few more shots are planned with Tatum and Brittani returns shortly for her next chapter in the story before our preview show in May, to coincide with Artisphere.
A couple of weeks ago I invited local model Hannah to come by and create some images for Paths that Cross. This is only a sampling of what we accomplished that first day, still untitled. She has since been back for another shoot and so far it looks promising, too.
Dancing Barefoot, another addition to the Paths That Cross project. Continuing our journey into darker places, Tatum climbed atop the alter, a sacrifice, perhaps, or just a place to grab a nap.
Recent additions to Paths That Cross. Waiting Undergound, above, and Because the Night, below. Both images came from the same session, same model, and several more images have probably made the cut , too.
Resting Crows, an image from the growing series Paths that Cross. Many more in the works and planning to start with encaustic and cold wax in the coming weeks.
Have been inspired to start a new project to follow Another Time. I have recently been back in the studio with several new (to me) models from Greenville and Athens, GA, and excited with what’s happening.
Paths That Cross will play several of my favorite themes but a new palette, collaborators, and treatment. Stay tuned for more.
Thanks to Juror Alyssa Coppleman for including “It Is Done” in SINGULAR/SIGNATURE, at the Center for Fine Art Photography, Ft Collins, Colorado. The show will run March 3 – April 1, 2017
